Lent, Holy Week, & Easter at FUMC Denton

This year, our Lenten worship series, Whole-Hearted: Finding Restoration in a Fragmented World, draws from the healing stories of Jesus. These stories tell of folks who were blind and now see, the mobility impaired getting up and walking freely, and those suffering from life-long diseases being miraculously cured, among others. Each is a unique story about an individual whose faith is strengthened through the miraculous work of Jesus Christ. While unboxing the miracle stories for our 21st Century sensibilities might be challenging, it is important to remember that the Bible is a story about God and not about us. Our scripture library helps to reveal who God is. We wish you a profound Lenten season and look forward to traveling along this journey toward the cross and, ultimately, the empty tomb with you.

The choice to take on a Lenten discipline such as reading a devotional allows us the space to consider the awesome power of Christ’s death and resurrection in our own lives. Studying the miracle stories can be a tool for understanding the awesome power of God, and while the stories of those healed are indeed miraculous, the Bible also holds stories of God using differently abled persons to demonstrate God’s amazing grace. With this in mind, the devotional linked here is an important resource as we explore healing stories for our Lenten season. The devotions contained in Disabling Lent: An Anti-Ableist Lenten Devotional offer the stories and reflections of disabled individuals in their journey of faith.
