At the Table

One of the central metaphors of our faith is the table—a place for community, connection, and conversation. Think in terms of those first disciples who gathered around tables on multiple occasions, not simply to share a meal and to be in each other’s company, but to be with Jesus. “I’ve eagerly anticipated eating this meal with you,” Jesus tells his disciples (Luke 22:15). God looks forward to meeting us at the table. We meet God and each other here. For next month and half, we are going to explore our scripture library’s metaphor of a table in the worship series, “At The Table: Meeting God and Each Other in Sacred Community.” Each week we find ourselves at various venues, as each table offers to help us think more deeply about God and about how God’s table can form and shape us.
