We are pleased that you have decided to pursue your arts education with us and are looking forward to the opportunity to help you grow and learn. We take our mission seriously as we believe the arts are a gift from God that gives us—those who bear His image—a means to worship and glorify the Creator. We also believe the arts help us to explore God and His creation—its inherent beauty and its current brokenness.
We are currently offering private instruction in piano, guitar, trumpet, flute, violin, drums and voice as well as general music classes for our Children’s Day Out program here at FUMC. In addition, we have teachers available for drama, dance, and music theory classes. We hope to also offer drawing, painting, creative writing, poetry and other arts disciplines at some point in the future.
Lessons are taught on Mondays and Tuesdays of each week and can be scheduled anytime during the day or evening through 8:00pm. Lesson times are determined based upon open times slots and teacher availability.
The Academy year is based on the Denton ISD calendar. Lessons begin in August and continue through May. Major holidays will be observed. Please refer to current academic calendar for specific dates.
Summer lessons are encouraged and are scheduled based on teacher availability.
An annual registration fee of $50 covers administrative costs, overhead, and special functions.
Registration fee and first month’s tuition are due at the time of registration.
Tuition for private lessons is $810 for 31 half-hour lessons.
Tuition for classes is $405 for 31 45-minute classes. Classes require a minimum of 5 students and will be restricted to a maximum of 12 students, dependent upon type of class. Discounts will be offered to families who enroll two or more students: First child pays full tuition; each additional child receives a discount of $90 off of full tuition ($10/month)
Tuition for summer lessons is $270 for 10 half-hour lessons and can be paid in three installments of $90.
Tuition may be paid in full at the beginning of the academic year. For the convenience of the student, tuition may also be paid in monthly installments: $90/month for private lessons, $45/month for classes. Tuition payments are due at the first lesson of each month.
Payments may be made by check, cash, mastercard/visa, or monthly bank draft. Please make checks out to FUMC Fine Arts Academy. If paying by mastercard/visa, there will be an additional service fee of 4% added to each transaction. Bank drafts do not incur any additional fees. Please remit payment to Academy Director.
Tuition will be pro-rated for students who enroll mid-term.
Scholarships are available to select students who demonstrate financial need, artistic ability and dedication to instruction. Amount of scholarship will be determined on an individual basis and will require some level of financial commitment from the student. Final determination on how and to whom scholarships are awarded is made by the Academy’s advisory board.
Each student is guaranteed 31 lessons/classes. Lessons begin August 27, 2012 and continue weekly through May 10. The Academy observes Denton ISD holidays as well as church holidays.
Lessons are considered a standing appointment. Make-up lessons will be offered when either a teacher must be absent or the Academy closes due to inclement weather. Make-up lessons are not offered when a student is absent unless the Academy is given at least 24 hours notice. When adequate notice is given, a student is granted one make-up lesson per semester.
Music and arts instruction is a discipline that requires commitment. Students are expected to be on time for their lesson and be adequately prepared through regular, daily practice. The arts are also a creative endeavor. Students should bring a positive attitude, and open mind and heart and a willingness to receive instruction.
FUMC-Denton is a safe facility. However, since we are a downtown church, we prefer for parents to accompany their young children into and out of the building.
Lessons are taught in the Third Floor of the East Wing. Entrance is through the Mulberry Street side of the church building. There is a drive through at the Mulberry Street entrance. Take the stairs or elevator to the third floor.
